ACVS PRACTICE PARTNERS PROGRAM PRIORITIZES TECHNICIANS’ CONTINUING EDUCATION
Germantown, MD, April 24, 2009 – The American College of Veterinary Surgeons (ACVS) and its members have long acknowledged the important role of veterinary technicians in the delivery of surgical care for animals. ACVS is committed to providing the highest caliber of technician continuing education with quality, cutting-edge knowledge from ACVS’ top veterinary surgical educators. Access to the most current education available is critical to providing the best care in all aspects of surgery and related areas.
With the launch of ACVS’ Practice Partners Program, more veterinary technicians can take advantage of the advanced level of continuing education the College offers. All ACVS Practice Partners may register an unlimited number of their technicians for the ACVS Veterinary Symposium at no cost. Technician registration provides access to the entire Symposium program, including the three-day Technicians’ Program. By working with the Practice Partners, ACVS is enthusiastic about continuing to increase the participation of technicians at its Symposium. Attendance at the three-day Technicians’ Program increases each year.
The three-day Technicians’ Program at the 2009 ACVS Veterinary Symposium (October 8-10)will include a one-day Diploma Course taught by veterinary specialists and a total of 32 continuing education credits. In addition to the seminars, ACVS is offering a hands-on laboratory in Regional Analgesic Techniques on Wednesday, October 7. ACVS is one of the few veterinary specialty groups that offer continuing education credits specifically for technicians.
ACVS designed the Practice Partners Program as a unique opportunity for ACVS Diplomate-affiliated practices to share and support the College’s dedication to excellence of veterinary surgery. Practice Partners receive benefits that focus primarily on special continuing education and training opportunities.
ACVS Diplomate Dr. Anke Langenbach, owner and head surgeon of Veterinary Surgical Center (VSC) in Vienna, VA, has taken tremendous advantage of the Practice Partners Program by registering more than 15 VSC technicians for the 2009 ACVS Veterinary Symposium. “VeterinarySurgicalCenter, for a myriad of reasons, is proud to be a member of the ACVS Partnership Program in 2009. One of the most significant factors was the Program’s dedication to elevating the standards of the entire practice by offering educational benefits to technicians. By offering such benefits, the ACVS Practice Partners Program is recognizing the absolute necessity of providing the referring community, clients and patients with not only advanced surgical procedures and skills via Diplomates, but advanced care from the time of the referral until the cessation of treatment by bolstering the knowledge of the entire surgical team.”
ACVS invites surgeons, veterinarians and practice managers to encourage technicians to excel in their training opportunities. Continuing education and registration information for the 2009 ACVS Veterinary Symposium program is at www.surgicalsummit.org.
ACVS is the only board certification organization for veterinary surgeons recognized by the American Veterinary Medical Association. Established in 1965, the mission of ACVS is to advance the art and science of surgery and promote excellence in animal health care through research, education and service to the public.
